King-gyou (
) is the king of the Land of Desire Yui-wang. When awoken by a Golden Flower, he will present the player with an entrance to the Helix Palace Luo-shang after a choice between six items that are useful inside: the Chopsticks, Sheep Intestine, Sun Water, Bottle Gourd, Small Mallet, and Panacea. He is known to turn souls who perish in the Helix Palace into jewelry and gold for himself.
Tong-Nou Book Entry
King of Yui-wang (Land of Desire), embraces infinite desire. His ugly desires have turned his body to gold. Possesses the power to turn human desires into gold or gems. Greedy and self-centered, but amiable.
Likes
Collecting gold and gems to decorate the Helix Palace Luo-shang is his life work. A tone-deaf, but, a music freak. Seeks but the four missing instruments.
Dislikes
All that is neither gold nor gems, are worth as much as dust. Simplicity and poverty are the words he most dislikes. Detests all tone-deaf people apart from himself.
Etymology
His name appears to be a fusion of kin (金, or kane, meaning gold / money) and gyou (行), a kanji that can mean "to circulate" or "to travel"; which originates from the Wu Xing philosophical concept, also known as the Chinese "Five Elements" (五行, go-gyou in Japanese).
In which case, as his name and domains theme suggest, King-gyou is a representation of the element of Metal, also represented by either Gold or Silver. The element is also linked to the autumn season, the color white, the virtue of righteousness, a furred body, and the West cardinal direction.
Writting kin (金) together with the kanji for tama (玉, ball / jewels) leads to the word "金玉", that can either be read as kingyoku (meaning 'gold and jewels') or kintama (meaning testicles). The latter reading, being of sexual connotations, can be linked to Show-mi, the Room of Sexual Desire hidden in the Helix Palace.
