Each area in LSD: Dream Emulator can appear decorated in one of four texture sets. These texture sets are commonly referred to by fans as "Normal", "Kanji", "Downer", and "Upper", though officially they're never given names.

The Texture Cycle

The game starts with only Normal textures, but every 10 days another texture set is added into the mix. From days 11-20, an area may appear decorated in the Normal or Kanji texture sets. This can change each time you visit the area. After that Downer textures are introduced, and from Days 31-40 any of the four may appear. The cycle resets after this, with only Normal textures appearing again for the next 10 days.
